Setting Up ContextGenie
ContextGenie is the foundation of the entire GeoGenie system. It's a multi-agent research system that maps the personas, topics, and contexts in which your brand might be discovered in AI search. Every other GeoGenie product depends on ContextGenie's output — the accuracy of its settings directly determines the reliability of your brand mentions, competitor analysis, citations, and entities across all dashboards.
What ContextGenie does
ContextGenie functions as a marketing research associate embedded in your team. It:
- Suggests potential personas, topics, and contexts for brand discovery
- Acts as a translation layer — defining mappings between raw AI-generated answers and the clean object format required for GeoGenie dashboards
- Feeds its output into PromptsGenie, SiteGenie, and ActionsGenie
- Identifies competitor brands that appear alongside yours in AI search
Configuring personas
Personas represent the types of people who might discover your brand through AI search. These are the buyer roles, job titles, and user profiles who ask AI engines questions in your category.
Examples by industry:
- SaaS: VP of Engineering evaluating CI/CD tools, procurement team comparing vendors, Head of Product searching for alternatives
- E-Commerce: shopper comparing sustainable water bottles, buyer looking for skincare for sensitive skin
- Healthcare: patient researching telehealth providers, consumer comparing gut health supplements
The personas you define here determine which user perspectives PromptsGenie will generate prompts for.
Configuring topics
Topics are the product categories and subject areas where your brand should appear in AI answers. They define the thematic boundaries of your GEO monitoring.
Topics should be specific enough to produce meaningful metrics but broad enough to capture the full scope of your category. When topics are too broad, the prompts they generate will produce averaged, unreliable metrics. When too narrow, you'll miss important segments of the conversation.
Configuring contexts
Contexts are the discovery situations and use cases that trigger AI to mention or recommend brands. They represent the 'why' behind a search — what situation or need is driving someone to ask AI about your category.
Examples: evaluating vendors for a new project, comparing options before a purchase, researching alternatives to a current solution, looking for expert recommendations in a specific niche.
How ContextGenie feeds other products
ContextGenie's output flows directly into:
- PromptsGenie — personas, topics, and contexts become the basis for generating testable prompt sets representing real user intent
- SiteGenie — structured data and schema suggestions are informed by the entities and topics ContextGenie identifies
- ActionsGenie — on-site and off-site content briefs are shaped by the contexts and personas where your brand should appear
- Competitor identification — ContextGenie surfaces the brands that appear alongside yours in AI search, which feeds into competitive tracking across all dashboards
Why accuracy matters
The principle is simple: garbage in, garbage out. If your personas are too generic, your prompts won't reflect real buyer intent. If your topics are too broad, your metrics will be diluted. If your contexts are incomplete, you'll miss the discovery situations where competitors are winning.
Take time to configure ContextGenie thoroughly. It's the single highest-leverage setup step in GeoGenie.
